Seth Michelson is an award-winning poet, translator, and professor.

He has published nineteen collections of original poetry, poetry in translation, and an anthology, as well as numerous essays, articles, and book chapters on poetry, typically with a focus on the intersections of poetry and state violence.

Having lived in many amazing places around the world, including Baltimore, Buenos Aires, Helsinki, Los Angeles, Madrid, Montevideo, New York City, San Diego, and Sydney, he currently resides in Virginia, where he teaches the poetry of the hemispheric Americas. There he also founded and and directs the Center for Poetic Research (https://www.wlu.edu/center-for-poetic-research).

He has recently been featured at poetry festivals in Argentina, Germany, India, Kenya, Mexico, Slovenia, and Uruguay, not to mention across the United States. His work has been translated into Hindi, Italian, Malayalam, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages.

His awards include an NEA Fellowship, a poetry prize from Split This Rock, the International Book Award for poetry, and an Anna Davidson Rosenberg Award. He was also named Professor of the Year for his teaching in New York, and he was a finalist for the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia’s Outstanding Faculty Award.
